Neurotoxins

Neurotoxins are a type of injectable medication that can be used in medical spas to temporarily paralyze or weaken certain muscles in the face or body. There are several different types of neurotoxins that are used in medical spas, including:

  1. Botox: Botox is a brand name for the neurotoxin botulinum toxin type A. It is commonly used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, especially in the forehead and around the eyes.
  2. Dysport: Dysport is a brand name for the neurotoxin botulinum toxin type A, similar to Botox, it is commonly used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
  3. Xeomin: Xeomin is a brand name for the neurotoxin botulinum toxin type A, similar to Botox and Dysport, it is commonly used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
  4. Jeuveau: Jeuveau is a brand name for the neurotoxin botulinum toxin type A, similar to Botox, Dysport and Xeomin, it is commonly used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
  5. Myobloc: Myobloc is a brand name for the neurotoxin botulinum toxin type B, it is used less frequently than the above mentioned neurotoxins, it is used for the treatment of chronic sialorrhea (excessive drooling).

All these neurotoxins work by preventing the release of a chemical called acetylcholine from nerve cells, which prevents the contraction of the muscles in the area where the toxin is injected. It's important to note that all neurotoxins are prescription drugs and should be administered only by a licensed healthcare professional.
